Impulse was recorded in July/August of 2021. Each song was completed in 3 to 4 day ‘impulsive’ bursts. I chose to limit my sonic palette this time around - there are no drum kits or synthesizers on the record. This was a scary choice for me as I love rhythm and I love to tinker with synthesizers on my songs. Every sound is generated by my guitars (they are also my drums!), piano, vocals, strings and samples. This approach had me feeling and thinking about the nature of impulsive thoughts - good and bad. This became a key theme on the album and shaped my lyrical approach.
